Estonia hosted the last ever NEZ (North European Zone) Championship race in LaitseRallyPark on September 24th 2023. KartletiX coach Ragnar Veerus became North European Champion in DD2 with a dominant drive, beating his closest rival by 5 seconds.

Qualifying

The volatile autumn weather greeted the drivers with sun, rain, warm and cold weather. The conditions were unpredicatble throughout, kicking off with a wet qualifying session. Ragnar Veerus showed great wet weather pace, winning qualifying by over half a second and beating qualifying track record that was set in similar conditions just 2 weeks ago.

Heats

Heat races started on a drying track. Firstly, heat 1 saw the two leaders clear the rest of the field by a whopping 18 seconds due to a heated battle for P3. Veerus set the fastest lap and took the race victory by 1.5 seconds. Second heat took place in fully dry conditions and saw the chasing pack drop 2 seconds from Ragnar. This awarded him with a pole position for the final.

Final

The final in the evening was held in significantly colder conditions. The leading pack ran together for about 4 laps until Johann Vain had to retire due to technical reasons and Devin Sagadi started losing ground. After that, Ragnar set fastest lap after fastest lap to build a five second gap. He set numerous track records in the process. KartletiX coach became North European Champion over the course of 17 laps, ahead of Devin Sagadi (EST) and David Rehme (SWE).

“The conditions were challenging but we made no mistakes,” said the newly crowned champion. “I enjoyed the race and it was a great ending for the national karting season.”

Ragnar Veerus will now continue his preparation for the Rotax Grand Finals. The event will take place in Bahrain from 2nd to 9th of December.
