KartletiX driver George Chen (DD2 Masters) wrapped up Taiwanese Karting Championship title last weekend at Lihpao Racing Park. The 33-year-old walked away with his first ever Rotax Grand Finals ticket to Sarno. DD2 driver Simon Hong just missed out on the title to clinch P2 at the last round and in the championship. Furthermore, Dennis Cheng (Max Masters) claimed victory at the final stage to finish P2 in the standings. Roger Young ended the season in P3 in the nail-biting DD2 Masters title decider, making it a KartletiX 1-3 on the overall podium.

Nail-biting DD2 Masters

DD2 and DD2 Masters categories fought for tickets to the 25th edition of the Rotax Grand Finals. KartletiX drivers were leading both categories coming to the final round where 1.2x points were awarded George Chen was leading Roger Young for the DD2 Masters championship but the winner of the second round in Xihu was struggling against his rivals.

Respect over Result

Roger Young, 2x defending champion, had his sights on Sarno from the beginning of the weekend and was mixing it with the DD2 Senior drivers. But in prefinal, Young dropped a lot after the start and lost points to Chen, meaning he could only be crowned champion if he won the final. The 3-way championship battle could’ve been decided already in the start when another Masters driver escaped the field with clever tactics. Young knew Chen would need a 2nd place finish to clinch the title, so he sacrificed his final and finished behind Chen in P3, dropping to P3 in season standings in the process. KartletiX became Taiwanese champion with George Chen.

Podiums in DD2 & Senior Master

Simon Hong needed to win the final round to defend his points lead. Despite showing magnificent pace in the practices, his speed faded on a poor set of race tyres, collecting second places behind his title rival. But after a messy start in the final, Hong overtook his rival in the first lap and briefly took the lead. Unfortunately, his defensive driving was not enough to hold back the home track based title rival.

Dennis Cheng was victorious on both visits to Lihpao after KartletiX training camp in July. Coach Ragnar Veerus went overseas to prepare Taiwanese drivers for the last two rounds of the championship ahead of the 3rd stage. The developing driver found tons of pace and success at the second half of the season to secure a P2 in the championship. KartletiX colours were seen at the top of the podium.

KartletiX is planning another training camp to Taiwan for 2025 to hopefully push more drivers for titles and get the chance to demonstrate their skills on the international scene. But even before that, we will be seen in Malaysia for the Rotax Asia Festival 2025 in January. KartletiX is crossing fingers for George Chen on his debut at the Grand Finals and will be there to help the Master’s driver survive the DD2 field.
