Campillos Karting Circuit KartCenter is one of the toughest homologated tracks in Europe. With Rotax Max Wintercup in less than two weeks, we’ll break down the key factors for racing in Campillos.
The longest Spanish circuit is 1580m in length and features all kinds of corners. The difficult nature of the track has fast demanding corners alternating with slow technical ones. The track is as demanding physically as strategically.
Tip 1: Avoid Kerbs
Campillos KartCenter is fastest when driving around the kerbs. There are couple of corners where kerbing may seem like a good idea, like turn 3, 4, 10, 12 and counting. In reality, there is no lap time gained over the kerbs, despite cutting distance a little. Smoothness and stability of the kart will prevail.
Tip 2: Best Overtaking Spots
The best overtaking spots at Karting Campillos are at turn 6, 12, 16 and 17. Honourable mentions are turns 1 and 5, but they tend to be closed easily. The braking zones of turns 12 and 16 are undeniable favourite for going up the inside, with the hairpin at turn 16 conveniently opening itself up. Turns 6 and 17 require more courage to jump the kart ahead, but be very aware of the acceleration. Don’t get reovertaken for dropping out and making the corner too tight.

Tip 3: Stability
The long lap in Campillos is prone to mistakes during a flying lap. Putting together a single good lap is hard. But one impressive lap time is not enough for races. Ultimately, minimising mistakes will be the key to success in Campillos. Smoothness helps over the course of race distance and a single lap. While stability minimises lost time and tyre wear during a race, the long lap may offer only a single chance for a fast qualifying lap on new tyres. A mistake during 1 or 2 possible qualifying laps could mean using the cream of the tyre or not. This may ultimately mean a difference of 0.5 seconds on the time sheets.
