4 Tips for Driving in Aravete

Aravete is an old Estonian karting circuit that will host Rotax Max Nordic Challenge this coming week. It is an old-school track with tons of overtaking opportunities and although it is easy to drive, it’s hard to keep touching the limits over and over again. KartletiX has a lot of experience here and we’ve also developed a track guide available for everyone not long ago. But let’s brake down a few of the most important aspects about this track to give you a little insight.

1. TRAIN LATE BRAKING

5 of Aravete track’s 8 corners are basically hairpins. Meaning that braking zones are strong and slowing down quickly is part of driving fast around here. Time and positions are lost when one is too soft or too eager on the braking zones. Find your limits and a good rhythm to never make a mistake while racing.

2. OVERTAKING IS POSSIBLE EVERWHERE

Don’t underestimate any corner in Aravete – all of them offer a great opportunity for attacking or getting attacked. When in front during the last laps of the race, close every door and watch out that you wouldn’t be re-overtaken on thw acceleration. When you need put pressure on someone, always be ready to cut across after the 5th corner, before the long back straight. If you plan the corner well enough, it’s possible to get along side and keep gaining on the straight to pass the driver ahead.

3. DON’T USE THE INSIDE KERBS (IN THE DRY)

Avoid hitting the kerbs on the apexes because they will throw the kart off the line. They’re high enough to make the kart bounce and cause one to lose a few tenths in just a single corner. Be as close to the apexes as possible but there’s no room for error. The fastest drivers place the kart perfectly next to the kerb. While there are places at the track you need to do the same in wet conditions, kerbs become super useful on a wet track.

4. AIM FOR LATE APEXES

As Aravete consist largely of hairpin-like corners, the exit is just as important as the entry. To get the maximum speed out of the corners onto the straights we need to aim for late apexes to open up the exits. The tip of the corner is often visible, indicated by two ends of the kerb meeting. Always place the kart just behind that point to place yourself on the racing line. The faster the track gets, the more it will come in handy.
