KartletiX coach Ragnar Veerus dominates DD2 field on the renewed 333 Sports Complex track near Riga, Latvia. Veerus clears the field in the final by nearly 6 seconds to take the 75th win of his career.
The 1300m circuit that was only finished this year was a great challenge to every driver ahead of it’s biggest event of the year – Rotax Nordic Challenge. A new challenging layout with brand new asphalt and occasional sand storms provided varying grip levels and unpredictability.
RACE WEEKEND SUMMARY
Friday, 30th of June, greeted us with hot weather. Ragnar Veerus failed to make his low pressure work in the qualifying practice, placing himself P3 on the grid for the heat. After the start, Ragnar found himself from P4, chasing the leaders. He was a man on a mission by setting lap records and catching the leaders. Our KartletiX coach placed himself P2 for the prefinal, just 0.045 seconds off the winning Lithuanian Maxim Schurko.
Some rain on the following day made the track conditions looser and easier, therefore the field became closer. After a great start off the line in the prefinal, Ragnar was nearly forced out of the track in turn one, returning to racing in P5. But just as they day before, the Estonian fought back and went for the lead with one lap to go to win the race.
In the final, there was no challenging the KartletiX creator. He was quickly away to a safe distance, secured a win by nearly 6 seconds and grabbed a fastest lap. Despite his earlier struggles with the chassis, coach was very happy:
“We came here for practice and we got it all; tough racing, track knowledge and a good result. Although, this year’s challenge in DD2 is huge, we left the rest of the field far behind. That’s what’s important to us. Despite liking the previous layout better, I really enjoyed the new track as well.”
